PASS PLUS

Pass Plus

Well done you can drive without supervision!  No more driving lessons!  You are free to drive anywhere, any time and no-one is more pleased for you than your AMC instructor.  Your pass is afterall our aim but our main priority is to teach SAFE DRIVING FOR LIFE.  To this end the DSA introduced the PASS PLUS scheme which is aimed at providing new drivers essential additional road experience ensuring that you are better equipped to deal with new road situations you will doubtless face in what we hope will be a long and safe driving career.

WHAT’S INVOLVED? The Pass Plus scheme consists of a minimum of 6 hours driving, usually in your driving instructor’s vehicle (although you can take the course in your own car) broken down into 6 modules -

  • Town/City centre driving.
  • All weather driving.
  • Driving out of town ie country roads.
  • Driving at night.
  • Driving on dual carriageways.
  • Motorway driving.

You must drive for at least one hour in each of the modules and achieve or excel in each module in order to qualify for your Pass Plus certificate.  In my 10 years experience no-one has failed to qualify for their Pass Plus certificate.  On occaision some clients have needed an extra hour or so to achieve the required standard but the kind of people who take the Pass Plus course are there for the right reasons it is no surprise that approach the course with the right attitude and are therefore successful.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PASS PLUS? The benefits are twofold -1.    You gain invaluable additional driving experience.  For example a newly qualified driver will have never driven on motorways.  Dealing with driving on 70 mph roads with heavy traffic with very often 3 or more lanes and a hard shoulder and new road signs, very often overhead with junction numbers on them.  By the time you have worked out what a junction number represents you realise that you have missed your turn off!  This is one of many example of the new experiences you will encounter in a much safer environment where your instructor can show you how to plan your route,  follow road signs, overtake safely and know what you use the hard shoulder for.2.   You will save a considerable amount of money on car insurance as you will be considered a lower risk driver in the eyes of many driver insurance companies. In many if not most cases the discount on your insurance will more than cover the fee for the Pass Plus course so it really is a win win situation.  For more information on how to save money on driving insurance click on the following link -http://www.passplus.org.uk/insurers.asp

DO I HAVE TO COMPLETE THE COURSE IN ONE DAY?No absolutely not!  We recognise that to give up 6 hours of your time in one day can be difficult.  You can for instance complete the course over a week or more.  You can complete one or two modules at a time but remember it is only upon completetion of the Pass Plus course that you can complete your form and send off for your Pass Plus certificate.  Once you have recieved your Pass Plus certificate you can start calling round the car insurance companies looking for the best deal.
